		<description>'Skeylja' (a combination of the Dutch island Terschelling and Iceland) is an investigation of both musicians and visual artists for their interpretation of the island Iceland and their translation of it. This is the follow-up of 'Seeljocht', last year's artist in residence project on Vlieland.
Skeylja will be performed on this year's edition of the 'Oerol' Festival on Terschelling; on all the 8 evenings of the festival.

		<description>In 2014 Rosa Ensemble and 33 ⅓ collective will present a music theatre production after Michaíl Afanásjevitsj Boelgákov's book 'The Master and Margarita'. In this novel, written in the early 20th century, the devil under the name Woland and his henchmen visit Moscow and create disorder in a magical way. According to this story the devil reveals and punishes the evil in the Soviet Union.

		<description>The Falls is an experimental opera directed by Saskia Boddeke. This performance took place in 2005 in the Broerenkerk in Zwolle (the Netherlands) and was the first 33 ⅓ collaboration. It enclosed our bachelor study at the CABK ArtEZ academy of fine arts.

The opera is based on one of Peter Greenaway's earliest works; a book and film called The Falls in which 92 characters are struck by a mysterious event that leaves them obsessed with birds and flight. These incidents are called "Violent Unknown Event" or VUE.

Peter was closely involved in the process of making the performance that contained the participation of 92 music, theatre and fine arts students. 33 ⅓ was responsible for the visual input that consisted of seven video projections.

		<description>'Seeljocht' (Frisian for ‘Sealight’) is an investigation of both musicians and visual artists for their interpretation of the island Vlieland and their translation of it. This resulted in a soundtrack of the sounds of nature, supported by images of the island itself. Above all it is a warm ode, in which the nature of Vlieland plays the central role.

Seeljocht was the 2011 artist in residence project of music festival 'Into the Great Wide Open' and was also performed at 'Explore the North' festival in Leeuwarden and 'Le Guess Who' festival in Utrecht.

Seeljocht – (Dutch) PRESS QUOTES

"Met verstilde pianoklanken en minimalistische percussie gecombineerd met vrouwenzang maakt Seeljocht een soundtrack van het eiland. Het donkere bos rond het kleine Naar Buiten podium is de perfecte setting voor dit project en het publiek luistert dan ook ademloos. De surrealistische beelden van het eiland die op schermen naast het podium worden geprojecteerd vullen de muziek prachtig aan. Naar het einde van de set toe wordt langzaam naar een climax gewerkt die de bezoekers sprakeloos achter laat. “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music”, zei Aldous Huxley al. Seeljocht bewijst dat nog maar eens."

"Seeljocht is, met dank aan de internationale samenstelling, een meertalige voorstelling geworden. Zo zingt Mariska Baars in het Engels, maar doet Jan Kleefstra dat in het Fries. Doordat er niet altijd even
1verstaanbaar wordt gezongen, komt de gesproken boodschap maar ten dele over. De klanken der natuur, de ruisende wind en zee, worden daarentegen op harmonieuze wijze verweven met de muziek.
De gevangen eilandklanken worden door de muzikanten in grofweg drie bedrijven vrijgelaten op een luisterend publiek. Terwijl minimalistische en verstilde geluiden resoneren door het bos, lopen projecties van duin en zand synchroon met de klanken die voortkomen uit het instrumentarium. Het zijn de hamers van een piano die in de duinen slaan. Een man schept het zand om, zoekt hij iets? De projecties roepen vraagtekens op, maar de beantwoording is aan de luisteraar.
(…) Met luide pulserende klanken wordt tot besluit de laatste compositie ingezet. Beats jagen door het bos, zoals de wind juttersgoed over het strand jaagt. Van het zittende publiek waagt een enkeling op te staan om mee te dansen. En wanneer het juttersgoed strandt in een zandduin, zwijgt ook de muziek. Seeljocht is een belevenis."
